Ms. Tran Bich Ngoc, Director of the Department of Monitoring and Inspection of the Government Office, was prosbed and arrested for her involvement in the case of “taking bribes” that occurred in Lam Dong province.
Spokesman of Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security Lieutenant General To An Xo, on the afternoon of August 11 told state media about the above news. Specifically, Ms. Tran Bich Ngoc was arrested and probed for “abusing positions and powers while performing official duties.”
The department that Ms. Tran Bich Ngoc is in charge of has the full name of “Inspection Monitoring Department; Resolve the complaint report; Prevention/Fighting of Corruption, Smuggling, Commercial Fraud and Counterfeiting” – referred to as Department I.
Ms. Tran Bich Ngoc is accused of violating her assigned responsibilities and duties in the settlement of inspection and complaints about the Dai Ninh Ecological Resort and Commercial Urban Area Project, Lam Dong Province, causing damage to State interests.
Dai Ninh urban area for commerce, tourism and eco-resort, invested by Saigon – Dai Ninh Tourism Investment Joint Stock Company, has a scale of more than 3,595 hectares. The project has a forest leased area of more than 1,050 hectares and an investment capital of more than VND25 trillion. The expected implementation period is from 2010 to 2018.
However, so far, this project has only built a few temporary works and left the forest to be destroyed, encroaching on hundreds of hectares.
Regarding violations in this project, the Central Inspection Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam in April asked the Secretariat to discipline the Chief Inspector of Lam Dong province – Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh – for accepting bribes.
On April 12 and 13, 2023, in Hanoi, the Central Inspection Committee held its 28th session. At this meeting, the Central Inspection Commission considered the proposal of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee on disciplining Party members for violations against Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Provincial Party Member, Chief Inspector of Lam Dong province.
The Commission’s conclusion is that: Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh has degraded in political ideology, morality, lifestyle, negativity, accepting bribes, violating Party regulations, State laws, violating regulations determining what party members must not do and responsibility to set an example, causing very serious consequences, pressing public opinion in society, and adversely affecting the reputation of the Party organization and the Inspectorate.
Mr. Anh was probed by the Ministry of Public Security and taken into custody on March 10 to investigate and clarify the act of accepting bribes.
On March 15, Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee held a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the Conference of the Provincial Party Committee to consider the proposal for disciplinary action against Mr. Anh.
