Fifteen high-ranking cadres under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat, including four members and former members of the Party Central Committee who are ministers, former ministers, secretary, and former secretary of the provincial Party Committees have been probed for criminal charges.
On November 18, the Standing Committee of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption and Anti-Corruption (Steering Committee) informed the media about the above information at a meeting of the Steering Committee under the chairmanship of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The steering committee said that in the past time, the prosecuting agencies have probed and investigated 2,474 cases out of a total of 4,646 defendants, prosecuted 2,157 cases/4,564 defendants, and tried 2,198 cases out of 4,620 defendants of crimes of corruption (in which, 414 cases of 939 defendants have been probed for corruption).
For cases under the supervision and direction Steering Committee, 10 new cases/37 defendants have been probed; finished investigating 16 cases/248 defendants, concluded additional investigation of 8 cases/148 defendants; issued indictments to prosecute 13 cases/122 defendants; first-instance trial of 10 cases/101 defendants; appeal hearing of 9 cases/66 defendants.
According to the Steering Committee, the investigative agencies of the Ministry of Public Security and the Supreme People’s Procuracy have investigated many particularly serious corruption cases occurring both in the state sector and in the non-home sector, such as the case at the Consular Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs); the case happened at FLC Group; the case happened at Tan Hoang Minh Group; the case happened at AIC International Progress Joint Stock Company or the case happened at Van Thinh Phat Group….
Thereby, many defendants who are high-ranking cadres, both incumbents and retired, general officers in the armed forces have been probed. Specifically, the Steering Committee said that functional forces have probted and investigated 15 high-ranking officials under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat, including 4 members and former members of the Party Central Committee, ministers, former minister, secretaries and former secretaries of the provincial Party Committee.
Since the beginning of the 13th term until now, the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Central Inspection Commission have disciplined 67 officials from the Politburo and the Secretariat, including seven members and six former members of the Party Central Committee. Especially, for the first time, the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat dismissed three members of the 13th Party Central Committee; localities have dismissed one provincial chairman of the People’s Council and two chairmen of the provincial People’s Committee for their wrongdoings.
